                                                                    “My work in painting is
minimal and linear. I am using
                                                               synthetic water-based mediums and
pigments to make my own paint. I
                                                               work on stretched canvas often
pulled over panel. The paintings are
of mostly diluted color with lines that
                                                               divide the surface. The
marks are seen as gestural yet they
                                                               are highly structured. These lines
play with elements both “static and
                                                               stable” and “fluid and rhythmic”
                                                               creating an abstract language that
                                                               is both rigid and expressive.

I am inspired by structure. My paintings start with distillation of place and by
finding simple underlying architectural forms. I juxtapose complexities found within
these structures. From this framework I expand on simple directions and isolate
them within a painting. I choose these moments for their timelessness, reference
and dialogue with architecture and art history. They are transformed through the
dynamics and poetics of abstracted form and color.

I am searching for things that are static and stable in environments that control
how we navigate the world. I intentionally leave a history behind as I compile layers
of paint. This not only informs the viewer of the process, but encourages them to
feel the passing sense of time and space.

In hopes of keeping the work well thought out and fresh, I constantly search for a
balance between contrived and arbitrary. This gives me an intuitive “just right”
feeling about the work. Scale change allows the larger paintings to reference the
color field era and engulfs the viewer while the smaller paintings become more
intimate. With the exception of tape, the paintings are constructed by hand with
out geometrical tools or spray applications. The crisp lines allow a stronger
interaction between the colors involved in the painting. "
